This policy guidance note is part of a series that the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the Directorate for International Cooperation and Development (DEVCO) of the European Commission and partners are producing to support policy makers address the food security and nutrition situation in their country. The purpose of this guidance note is to deepen the understanding and illustrate, with case examples, how change within existing policies and instruments that govern the livestock sector can help to improve and accelerate positive impact on food security and nutrition, focusing in particular on smallholders. The note identifies a range of guiding questions and issues to be taken into account when attempting to align livestock-related policy agendas with food security and nutrition concerns.
